Default Replace a tape deck with an after-market CD? '96 Civic

My new (to me) 1996 Civic has a main head unit and a separate tape deck, which site near the cup holders. I plan on running the speakers on an amp. Can I keep the main head unit installed and just replace the tape deck with my Alpine CD player?

That's the same thing that I have. I wanted to do the same thing. I don't know though. I think now I'm gonna replace the main unit with an aftermarket CD player and the separate will be used for a in-dash nav/DVD player.

I think they make a Y adapter for this to work...it is important if you have remote entry.
