rms question.
hey everyone, i'm looking at buying a second amp to power my front and rear speakers. i will in the future be upgrading my speakers as well. the components i'm looking at will handle about 50watts rms and 120 max power handling. my deck puts out 50 watts peak which is not enough. the amps i have looked at so far all have outputs such as 40x4 channels RMS. will this be enough or should i look for something with a higher output. the amp i was looking at was this one...

it's up to you
although for that amount you can definitely find an amp that pushes 50watts or more
look up hifonics
better to have enough than barely
but 40 rms will still be fine
depends on how loud you listen to your music and the voltage output of your RCA

well i know that amp power is better than deck power, but will 40rms be pushed up higher than the 50max that my deck is pushing... therefore will it be louder than deck power? i think i know the answer but i want confirmation... addiction??? chime in anytime bud.... should i look for more power or will this suffice?
ps - i think i will go with this one http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15526or this one http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=17566
comments welcome.....

Compare all power ratings in RMS. Other rating schemes are just hype. Your head unit (deck) will also be rated in RMS, they are almost all about 20 watts per channel. This is adequate for most listeners especially if backed up with a subwoofer. Now 40 watts is more than 20 watts but it's not twice as loud. If you like it really really loud you'll want more. Also some speakers need more power for the same loudness than others. Typically these are the high end ones that are designed more for fidelity than efficency.
I'd suggest an amplifier with about 75 watts RMS per channel to be sure it is enough. There is no problem using an amplifier at less than full output, it tends to sound better that way anyway.

thanks fellers. i will take your advice and cant wait to get it all done. i'm gonna put components in the front and i was thinking about building a custom rear deck and using another pair of components in the back. i've had coaxials in the fronts and backs for a couple years now and they suck ***. i have stock tweeter pods in the doors that arent even being used so its time to get em fitted with some tweets.
