Stereo System Recomendations
alpine radio with alpine type r speakers and subs. pretty much what ltkenbo said, except:
i would go with a bigger mono amp like the MRP-M850 ($400),
a different radio like the Alpine CDA-9883 ($200), or CDA-9885 ($300)
and if you run one sub get the SWR-1242, so that it will run as an overall load of 2 ohm.
and if you run 2, get the SWR-1222, so they can be configured to 2 ohms as well
-these are the same price and can handle the same power, but the coilsare different ohm load so they can be configured differently to fit your setup

A 4ohm dual voice coil sub by itself, wired in parallell will give you an overall 2ohm load. Wired in series will give you an 8ohm load.
A 2ohm dual voice coil sub by itself, wired in parallell will give you an overall 1ohm load. Wired in series will give you an 4ohm load.
Two 2ohm dual voice coil subs, would be the opposite as one 4ohm sub. Wired in parallell will give you an overall 8ohm load. Wired in series will give you an overall 2ohm load.

This is all for a mono channel amp.
Someone correct me if Im wrong.

if you trying to do a system that sounds good on a budget here's an idea.
if Alpine is what you like then go with it. i have a CDA9887 myself. anyways, if you listen to mostly rock music then go with a sealed box. its bass is tight, clean, and deeper. aported box is geared more for rap. a ported box wont sound as good with hard rock....(port noise) a ported box is designed to move more air so the sound preasure carries further. so if your wanting to beat the block down....go with ported. other than that....sealed all day.
im just gonna throw you an idea. its then same set up i did in my wifes car.
get a strong 4 chnl amp...needs to have some *****. ( used a fosgate P800.4 ) bridge 2 channels to a single 12" sub in a sealed box. put the other 2 channels on a good set of components in the front doors.
you see you want your best set of speakers to be up front with you...after all....thats the set your ears focus on as you drive. the rears are there just for a rear fill...or for you rear pass. entertainment...(your the one spending the money, put them up front with you)
the reason i suggest a component set over a coax for the front is because if you use a coax all your sound imaging comes from down low....at your knees. your goal is to have your imaging at your dash level. a component set has a seperate mid-bass and tweeter w/ a crossover. the crossover makes sure the right frequncy goes to the right speakers...plus you can tune the speakers to your liking through the crossover.
but by putting the mid-bass in the stock location, then put the tweeter at you lower A-pillar or top of the door panel your sound stage will be on the dash instead of youe knees.
anyways....doing a set up like this will not cost you out the ***. you end up buying 1 amp instead of 2. your sub wont drown out your mids & highs due to lack of power, you radio power can push the rear speakers, if someones in the back seat you simply fade your radio a few notches to the rear and its balanced. if your choosing a set of Alpine type Rs then hands down you need an amp. thats the trick to the type Rs.....they're power hungry. w/ out the proper power your only getting half the performance.
and trust me radio power isnt enough. 50x4 my ***....lets try 18x4 rms at best...and trust me bro....that aint enough for type Rs.
anyways man im not trying to over complicate things here....as most of my customers are hesitant when i present an idea for their car.....then shake my hand an i get to do my infamous...."i told you so" when were done.
good luck....im here to help man. ive been in the custom car industry for almost 8 years. ill be glad to anwsers.
oh an one last thing....remember these things
1. your system is only good as its weakest link. (wires, cap, box, etc.)
2. it will only perform as good as its install....(tunning and wiring can make or break)
3. get exactly what you want the first time, dont settle for second best....youll end up paying for it twice down the road.
4.....last but not least.....you get in what you put in.
best of luck bro

Thanx for all the info man
Anyways, I had a question. I understand the part about bridging the 2 chanels to the sub and then running the other to the compnent speakers, but how am I connecting rear speakers? Also what do you think of the 4 channel amp I picked?

as far as the amp goes.....it'll do the job. the one thing you have to take into consideration is you'll have limited power for the sub. if you wire it at 2ohms (the back channels) then you should have close to 200 watts. give or take a few. thats not enough "nuts" for the type R.
type S....all day long.
but you'll will need to make sure its a SWS1223D...2ohm spkr.
now you can do type R components....you'll have enough power for them.
also, notice that in the radios from Alpine differ in voltage pre outs. the radio you chose is a 2.7 volt preout. starting with the CDA9885 goes from 2.7 to 4 volts. in lamans terms its like going from aSOHC to a DOHC. (no offense to te SOHC fans lol)
as long as your using amps it makes a diffrence.that radio os a bit more than the one you chose. butno doubt youll get your bang for the buck out of it. plus it has the bluetooth, HD radio, and SAT upgrade capabilities.

Crutchfield.com says that the SPR-17C speakers "won't fit" but is this just because of it has 4 screw holes and civic only has 3? Anyone ever put these in there civic? They hard to fit in (the door I mean)?
