Default Subs affecting RPM

After I hooked up my subs and amp and drive around for like 15 min, my RPM drops to about 500 RPM (the car is barely on). hence, my need for a capicitor but I decided to disconnect power cable and now my RPM when in neutral is still lat 500 rpm. has this ever happen to anyone else and how can i fix this?

Could be something unrelated. Might just be a coincidence (sp?) that it happened when you hooked up your system. Check the distributor/alternator.

Dont know if this relate to it but car battery can possible b the problem. If your running assessories such as subs, neon light, tv etc your might want a better car battery that can handle it.

Default subs VS rpms

go to autozone and have them test the battery and alternator. im pretty sure they can test it in the car.

hey bud i have the same problem my rpm guage dances at idle if you crank on it, some amps are just current hogs, while others arn;t so bad. What they have suggested above are good ideas, but if you're worried about just get a beefier battery.

I think a capacitor will solve your problem for sure. Remember get a 1 farad for every 1000 watts of power your system is using.

I have the same problem with the r.p.m.'s dropping while the car idles. I have an Optima Battery and a 1.0 capacitor.
I'm running a Visonik amp rated at 800 watts RMS( i know its lower) and (2) JL audio 12" subs. Do I need 2.0 capacitor ?
