Give me a budget for a sub and an amp and I will let you know what I can come up with. Also, let me know what you want. Pure SPL, or sound quality, or loudness and sound quality.

go look @ ur local swap meet. dude i scored 2 12" P1 rockford fosgate subs for $160 in a vented box.

if u ask me that was a steal. they hit REALLY hard and keep me happy.

i bought an alpine monoblock amp for $150.

i highly recommend this setup for you. i have an aftermarket amp and i set the bass at the lowest possible setting

then i turn the amp for the subs up and turn the subwoofer level on my deck up a little bit and its REALLY loud.

seriously the swap meet is a good way to go.

good brands- I love my alpine stuff - great sound quality. infinity has good sound quality too. if you want something pretty good and loud, kicker is good. now, if you are rich and want top of the line, jl audio is amazing. (in my opinion)

I will agree with some of the previous posts. JL W6 series subs sound great, but they are well above your budget. Pioneer will have some subs that sound decent in your budget, and still have some kick to them, but they aren't by any means top of the line.

If I were you I would look into the RD Audio classic. I just tested one out for the first time a couple weeks ago, and it has the SQ of the W6 series subs from JL, but with much more output. And it is a $175 sub instead of a $300 one.

As far as an amp goes, you could get a budget amp that would power that sub perfectly for $175 and fit it into your budget, but if you could get an extra $75 together a Sundown SAE-1000D would be a perfect match. I haven't run the SAE-1000D from Sundown, but I run their SAX-100.2 amp, and their SAZ-1500D and they are amazing for the price. They make very high quality amps, but they don't charge crazy high prices like most higher end brands.

Overall I think that would be a very good comprimise for someone like yourself. Not mid grade pioneer/alpine, but not spending a ton for JL subs, but still getting quality on par with JL without the high price tag.

I recommend alpine to pretty much anybody I talk to. They got basicsubs in the Type Eat about 130 all the way up to Type X at about 500 apiece. and all of them are very clean sounding. all of their amps are super clean and have upwards of 100dba.

Just a basic system from Alpine would be a couple of type E subs and the mrp-m450 amp, it pushes 400 rms at 2-ohm. Right now its on sale at best buy, 2 12" the amp and a box for 400, sry for the sales pitch I work at best buy and I was an installer for a long time, but this package is about 200 less than normal retail price and it sounds really good.

anyway I love alpine...period
