Default Tape Deck Mod

I just bought a 96 Hatchback DX, and while it has an aftermarket cd player with aux in, the external tape deck is still in the car, but non-functional. I assume that it doesn't have power, and there isn't an external unit port on my new deck. Is there a way to make a set of controls for it, and pipe it into the stereo system through the aux input? Thanks for your help.

not without opening the cassette deck and doing some extensive rewiring. Not worth IMO.

You still own cassette tapes to listen to? lol

Yeah, what can I say, I love all my old tapes. I'd be happy to rewire the whole thing, and put custom buttons into the console, I just have no idea where to start on something like that. Are there technical specs available for the stereo system itself?

Finding out the wires going into a factory stand alone cassette player will be hard, probably going have to find a dealer service manual and hope that has it.

Unfortunately, nothing in the service manual seems to say anything about the internals of the tape deck. Is there anyone out there that has ever done something like this before? I know most people want to modify the connector for the tape deck to be able to attach other things into there. Perhaps any insight from that quarter?

IIRC the tape deck works off of the Alpine M Bus. At least that is what I remember because I pulled out the factory radio in my 1997 Civic and sold the Alpine CHM-S630 on eBay. I left my tape deck in there but I am about to pull it and fabricate a blank plate to put my voltage meter in.

Unfortunately, I've got a kenwood deck, without an accessory input on it, so, the quick and easy solution is out.

I have an ipod, and a dock for it in the car already, and that system works quite smoothly. I'd just like the added fun of having the tape deck in there. I guess I'll just figure it out myself.
