tuning a sony 1200W amp
my bass keeps cutting out at a volume of about 12 when i play a cd (D12). My friend tuned it before it started to cut out. Is there an easy way to tune an amp. I also have 2 12" sony Xplod subs. Thanks

there are either 1 of 2 problems......the subs are drawing too much power from the amp causing it to shut off so it doesnt fry.........or the amps too powerful for the subs and it powering off before fryin the subs........sell that sony crap and get rockford. u wont be disapointed.,

I doubt its option 2. Your amp is drawing too much power. You need to get a 'battery capacitor' aka cap...aka stiffener.
It stores mass amounts of power for when your sub hit hard... instead of draining the alternator, it sucks on the stiffener. The stiffener recharges as it goes... nothing to it. I reccomend a 1.0 Farad. Brand doesnt make too much difference unless you are doing competition.

hmmmmmn ive seen this a few times with sony amps. the problem is usually sub wiring. how do you have your subs wired? 2/4/8 ohm? is the amplifier bridged? maybe its the cd player skipping?

sony is claiming 1200 i'm sure rms is maybe around 300, you may be pushing more than it has. both remy and final have valid points. power cap works if the bass note just peters out, the amp cant get enough power fast enough from the battery, also you may notice headlight dimming, and how is the amp wired? do you have a sub channle from your hu? you need to run mono for your sub, you cvan do this with bridging the amp. who is your freind the installer? r u sure he knows what he is doing. did you use large enough main wire? also if you do have an actual 1200w rms amp you better can those 'plodes , cuz they are going to, explode has nowhere near that capability. large does not mean good

go on ebay......u can get a cap for under 100$........but most likely it wont end the problem........the amp just isnt powerful enough.....youre goin to have to toy with the Equalizer and find the max level u can have the bass on before the amp kicks out......if u really wanna have your system bump ur goin to need to get new stuff....
