you can make some rings out of MDF and screw them to your door then screw your speakers to the rings, with the rings you can make lots more clearance so the speaker will fit...the cover over the speeker might not go back on tho..thats when you do somthing custom, cover the MDF in material

My 92 has a plastic basket for the speaker to bolt to and when I get new speakers if there to deep I am going to cut the back out for the extra clearance if you have the same mount this is what I would do.

i would hold off on cutting the back of those speaker mounts joe, that was done to my crx and there only ended up being another 1/2 inch before the window (when its down of course) and then there were clearance issues with the window.

Thanks for the info I didn’t think about that. How far could you role your window down before it would make contact?

Im going to say bag the MDF. Metra and other companies like that make plastic trim rings that boost depth. many of them leave enough room to stick the aftermarket covers on them to make them decent looking.

i could roll my window down all the way but when the window is down it has some play in it so when i shut the door w/ it down the window would slam against the speaker. how deep of a speaker do you have, i can take some pictures of the ones i had in mine, im not sure though how much depth you can get away w/ and not have any problems.
