VSS wire in my 97 DX cannot be found.

Default VSS wire in my 97 DX cannot be found.
I installed a JVC KD-NX5000 the other day. I spliced into the vss wire, thinking that it was blue with a white stripe. There are 2 wires under my dash that match that description. I tried one, then the other. Neither of them work. Is there any way that I can meter these out or something to be sure of which one is correct? Thanks

blue white at the cruise control unit left of the steering column....... there is no good way of testing
