Wiring Question
Im just wondering, most HUs only have a single or switchable RCA preamp out. If I have say, 3 amps, is there any advantage trying to find a HU that has 3 RCA outputs, or just use the one for the subs amp, and use the other method (its name eludes me) with all four wires going into the amp, for the other two amps. Basicly, does running RCA from HU to amp offer any noticable advantage over just speaker wires HU to amp?
Once you'reabove the $100-$150price class, it's common for a HU to have front, rear, and sub RCA outs.A line-levelRCA connection should be used when possible because there will be less background noise and distortion than using the speaker outs. But if you really really like a HU's other features except it doesn't have all the line outs, you can get acceptable sound driving the front and rearamps with the speaker outs.
like mk378 only your bottom of the line hu's have the single imput, if you are amping your speakers and a sub you clearly already dropped some money on the amps (or atleast they cost somebody some money) so dont cheap out on the hu, because there are certain features that they have that you may not think of everyday but they make a world of difference. good example is eclipses rca level output, any eclipse deck above the base ecd-1000 has atleast 5volt preouts (up to 8volts on higher models) so it gives the amps a stronger signal, where as most hu's dont even advertise there preout level but i believe it is somewhere between .8v-3v, . so if you are looking for a good hu i think the eclipse ecd-2000 is about 200
Cheers guys, my new HU is on the way. My next question is, will 4gauge wire support 900W RMS over the 5m or so from battery to boot? Or am I gonna have to look at 2 gauge? Ive had sites claim it will hold the 900W fine, and some claiming its only rated up to 600W. Any input, experience, opinions please?
ya 4gauge suports up to 1200watts. so it should be fine.
if you can run preamp rcas then id do it that way..... preamps have a beter signal. they also use low power.... which is another reason why they sound beter... they dont pull as much juice from the radios power source.
