Have you played around with pathing things out yet? Once you get good at it you can do some amazingly detailed stuff. Let me know if you need any tips.
what exactly do you mean pathing things out? i think i've heard of it

What's the difference between that and using the pen tool as a selection tool?

^ its the same thing, he just makes the path a selection in a different way... same concept though

^^^ Yeah, but you can also have it trace your path as well. And you can save and edit paths were you cannot save or edit them with the lasso tool. Just a more involved way of doing it. Thats all.

the way that you made a path and created a selection is the way everybody uses the pen tool for chopping. You can save and edit a selection with the lasso tool as well
