cover any exposed wires, hoses, etc and take a pressure washer to it...then use a whole lot of elbow grease. i use armor all spray to shine up the rubber hoses/plastic pieces, royal blue wax on w/e paint i can get too, and for the tight spaces i cant get the grime off of i use ear picks...lots of em...if u have a wire brush, use it on the block and to help get w/e thickgrime off.
my bay at 170k miles, iconsider this fairlydirty...

its horrible right now due to all the salt and its been to cold for me to get out there to give it a good scrubin. tomorrow should be nice and i dont have work so i may take the time to attack the bay:)

RE: cleaning engine

that's pretty clean, except for maybe the valve cover

civicexracer Feb 27, 2007 11:05 PM

RE: cleaning engine

thats about as clean as i can get my valve cover unless i do some major work to it. i took it off a long while ago and used oven degreaser to clean it and thats about as clean as i could get it. i may have to take another stab at it since its been a long while...

RE: cleaning engine

try some engine degreaser from the car wash or use like some simple green and a hose, be sure to tape/cover
off any wires that could get damaged
