Default CLEANING SPILLED SODA

I live in the hot desert of Phoenix, Arizona, and I accidentially left a can of soda in my cup holder. It exploded and got into my center console and now it's difficult to shift. I have an automatic transmission. Can someone tell me how to clean it so it shifts more smoothly? I have a 2005 Honda Civic.

Thanks !

Take the console off and get down there and clean it with a rag and some wd-40. Hose it down with wd-40 so it gets into the moving parts and work the shifter back and forth.

^^ What pwnedu suggested sounds like a good idea. I had to do that for my wife's middle console and gear selector. I just used soap and water, wd40 sounds like an efficient addition as well. Either way, you'll definitely have to take it apart.
