Default 160 miles on a tank of gas?

I recently bought a 00 Civic Coupe EX. I have been monitoring my MPG carefully...in the beginning I was getting around 200 miles to a tank of about10 gallons of gas. At the moment I am getting about 180 or less. I recently had my oil changed and air filter replaced but it is still the same. Its a mix of highway and local maybe about 10 miles each way everyday. I'm at 138 miles right now and 3/4 of my gas is gone. I didn't expect my gas mileage to be this low. Does anybody have any clue why my MPG is so low? I don't step on it often. Driving from NY to atlantic city I had maybe 220 miles on 10 gallons. But I think that it is way too low for a Civic.

it has 18,000 miles on it.

Well, i got the exact same car as you, and i usually can get around 175 miles in a full tank, but thats all city driving. All the stopping and starting really hurts your mileage, so its not just your car alone. It all depends on how much highway driving you do with that particular tank of gas. I have gotten around375 miles in afulltank when it was all highway, so like i said, it all depends on how much highway driving you do...

thanks for the replies.. i've check the tire pressure and alignment and its fine.

I expected more mpg from a civic. 175 miles to a tank is SUV like. My 94 accord got more mileage than the civic in the same driving conditions. I guess there really isn't a specific problem... anybody know of any kind of recalls for the 00 civic?

Are you rompin' on it everywhere you go, in Vtec a lot?
I get about 220 in my 00 Si, but when I'm gunning it all over town, I get about 175 or so...so it all depends on how you drive it too.
city driving eats gas a lot more than highway. I road tripped about 380 miles and still had 1/8 of tank.

just as a side note, the person that has my Civic before me said they drove from here (Maquette, MI in the UP) all the way to Chicago (about a 6 hour drive) on a tank of gas. I believe them highway miles are really good on my car, and 160 mpgseems really low for a Civic

EDIT:

yeah, just like he said

that is really low. try a cold air intake, or a k&n air filter. as long as your not on it, then you mpg should improve slightly.
