My phearable asemap also sucked (turbo basemap). I drove it with the basemap about a mile before I pulled over and had to get a tow truck to my tuners. The car wouldn't even start again until I replaced the sparkplugs it fouled out.

Yea but you guys have some extreme cases where any flaws in a basemap would be magnified. brichguitars, you're turbo'd which would make it harder for them to make an accurate basemap, and kev, you have an LS/VTEC which i imagine would also be harder for them to make a basemap. bcivic has a stock engine and i'm pretty sure his basemap will be fine.

Well I installed the chip today. The car pulls a little harder. I noticed it idles and runs smoother. It was surging a little at red lights between 1000-1200 RPM but it went away by the time the test drive was over. So far I like it.

I don't think it's the basemap causing your guys' surging idle. I don't have that problem. I used to have a surging idle and I replaced my FITV and it stopped. My FITV was busted, but yours' might just be dirty. You can clean it out in a similar manner as the IACV with this DIY: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1564019

claviz13: When you turn on the engine it is supposed to idle high and surge a little to help the engine to warm up. This is probably what you experienced, and when the engine warmed up it went away.

Nope. I've changed my FITV and the IAC in the past because I had a major surging issue. I asked phearable about it and he said it's normal because your rolling idle is higher than if you were going 0. When the PCM sees 0 for a few seconds the idle comes down. That's what he told me and that's what it was doing. I agree that when the engine is cold the idle is higher but there should NOT be any surging.

I'm dead serious, a small 200RPM cold engine idle surge is perfectly fine and normal.

Surging is NOT NORMAL at all. LOL. It does it at operating temp not when cold. Phearable asked me what my base timing is set at. I've never touched it so I wouldn't know. I put the stock chip back in and it stops surging so it's definately the phearable chip.

What stock chip?

Your ECU was already socketed right? and you just bought the chip from Phearable?

I have the same engine as you, and the same mods pretty much. Phearable has confirmed to me that for stock D16Z6's with I/H/E they use the same map (of course). I don't have a surging problem. This indicates that the map is not the problem.

My guess is that your ECU is not properly chipped. Not only should it be socketed, but it should also have all of the things indicated in this picture.
