Default engine management light

Hi, I have civic 1.5Vtec (N Reg) 1995/96 model. My engine management light (the orange one) comes up while driving and it goes off when I turn the engine off and after some seconds turn it on. Because of that my fuel consumption has gone down. Initially I used to do over 350/375 miles with full tank and now it has done only 250 miles in full tank.

Any clues???

Regards
Kays

I've had that happen in another car and it could be either the MAP or O2 sensor.

how can I then read the engine? Is there any way that I can check it myself rather than spending 35£ to check it by computer (sorry im not good in technical stuff)
