FUEL GAUGE PEGGED, help please
Hey guys, i just joined the forum. I now own a 97 civic ex that i bought as my daily driver. Ive been fixin it up the last 2 weeks, and one of the last things that i cannot find the answer to online or in my chiltons is how to fix my fuel gauge. THe owner never told me about it. Nomatter how much fuel is in the system the gauge needle stays ABOVE the full line as full and it can go. The light comes on when you need gas, just doesnt show the amount left. On other cars i have owned you just replace the fuel pump assembly. What steps do i need to do to diognoss the problem while spending the least amount of money on my 235,000 mile car? I have tediously searches the last 2 weeks, and this forum seems to be the most helpful and indepth. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

what about matching the odometer? And an aftermarket gauge will do me no good. Im looking to sell the car after all is said and done and need it to work like factory. THanks for the help. Who else has an idea that will keep me from going back to the junk yard?
I have this same exact problem in my 98 EX Coupe. I think it arised out of a lost gas cap, went a few days without the cap and the gauge started malfunctioning and giving me wrong readings. I got a new cap a few days later and that didn't solve the problem. It's now been like a year since but it has not fixed itself but it is at the point past FULL and just stuck there all the time. The low fuel light does come on so it's not critical that I get this fixed but very much would like to.
There was another thread that mentioned the Gas SEnding Unit but not sure about that.

prolly just the cluster. You could get a new one and take it apart and manually move the numbers to match your old one then put eveyrhting back together adn you should be set. Or just take apart the cluster you have and make sure the needle is in there good.
And is all else fails, replace the fuel sending unit
