map sensor
Hi,i just bought a 1999 honda civic se.The car works good but had an engine light on.I took it to the shop to see what the problem was and they said the map sensor plug was not plugged in.They plugged it in and the light went off but now the engine's rev's are surging.I'm tempted to unplug the map sensor and live with the engine light.I did notice before the the map sensor was plugged in that there was slight hesitation at the lower part of the rev's and i think it was using a bit more fuel than it should have been.If i buy a new map sensor,is it simple to install?Do you think it will fix the rev surging, fuel consumption, stumbling on the lower rev's?Thanks for any help.

read the article and clean your iacv then see if it quits surging.

Yeah mine is on the throttle body.I'm thinking it might be the fast idle valve because i just plugged the hole on the throttle body with my finger and the rev's went down and were steady. As soon as i took my finger off the rev's were serging again. Now i need to find the fast idle valve on my engine. Its some where under the throttle body. Thanks

Check to make sure it is sealed up. I had a very small coolant leak right where that hose connects to the front of it, and once I fixed that my surging went away. Any extra air coming in will cause the idle to surge.

On my engine that's where the idle control valve is.It has electrical plug on the end, look a lot like the FITV.The guy at the parts store said they don't make FITV for my car...probably why i couldn't find it.I tried cleaning the icv twice with no luck.Im getting feed up....might just take it to the shop. Thanks
