Default spedo sensor

ok guys i know you have probably heard it all, and may be sick of it too, but i have looked around quite a bit here and cant really seem to find an answer to my problem.....

at the moment my spedometer and odometer do not work...

when i bought the car, it was fine, and then all of a sudden it started going haywire (so ive read this is common)

well, i had my transmission rebuilt because the guy that owned it before me decided to waste the gears and forks.... but anyway, when it was rebuilt, they replaced the spedo sensor becase i told them about the problem, well that didnt fix it

newly built tranny and new sensor, but the needle was still flying wild, sometimes it would be accurate, sometimes it would just sit at zero

not too long ago, i went from a d18y8 to a b16a j spec, and i still had the problem every so often, im guessing its in the wiring but i thought a lot of that was replaced with the swap...

if the spedo ever started jumping around, it seemed to fix itself if i dropped it a few gears and took off (as if the wiring was loose)

enyway, my engine trows the spedo sensor code, as well as o2, knock, and vtec... but ive done a little homework and i know that if one of those 4 sensors goes out, that the other 3 go into "safe mode" and dont perform as they should

my problem is that when the speometer works the vtec works, because when the sensors are all working, then the are not in safe mode anymore, so the vtec kicks in, but anyway i dont know what to look for,

i know its not the vtec noid, because it works when the spedo works

the speed sensor has been replased 2 or 3 times

the o2 was replaced when the engine was replaced (i believe)

the new engine doesnt appear to have a knock sensor even plugged in (but it happened with both engines)

if that was clear to anyone, or if you have the same problem, please give me a little insight because everything that everyone had told me so far, hasnt fixed it

are you sure you have the right type of speedo sensor in the trans? is it cable or electric in the orginal car?
