Default B20 in my 4 door

i have a 93 EG8 civic (4door d15, non vtec) and i recently came across a 87 prelude SI which has the old *** B20, well i want to swap the B20 into my EG8 . i looked for the engine swap info and i found that it will bolt directly up using the stock mounts. but i need to kno, will i have to find a new tranny or can i use the one from my D15?and if i have to buy a new tranny what should i go with? i pretty much have the whole car so what else will i need... and would this swap even be worth it im gettin the motor dirt cheap and it will probably need work internally it had the spark plug wires out and the shafts were open to the weather. so i kno it might need a little work but im ready to do it if it is going to be worth the hassle

the swap wouldn't really be worth the trouble, maybe a few hp and tq but the engine has almost no aftermarket support. the mini me is probably your best bet, not to hard to do if you remember to do everything

the b20 from the old 'Ludes are the bastard child of the B-series. dont do it. i dont think (pretty sure actually) it will fit like the b20 from the crvs, and even if it does, nothing will fit it. theres almost no aftermarket support for it.

well a d series has a lot of potential. you could swap on a vtec head, add a cam and a port and polish, tune the ecu and it would be a lot more fun. another big thing you can do is swap the trans to one with closer gearing to get better acceleration in all gears with the same amount of power, that is the biggest change in attitude for a d series

well after reading that the B20 was ****ty ..i watched my friend get stomped in a vtec 95 civic, by a STOCK 87 prelude. so i dont know so how much more would putting Vtec on my D15 cost than a 550 for the tranny and engine i need to do the B20 swap??? cuz im pretty broke and im tryin to get it fast. but cheap, and i know it can be done, also a guy i know is a certified honda tech and he said the DX tranny has the best ratio, has anyone found different because i do have a DX tranny from my old hatch. my hatch was stock D15 and i beat trans ams(80's) and eclipses all day.

the SI and EX tranny are much better than the DX.......remember the DX was made for gas milage.......so its got tall gears.

1. The DX has next to the worst gears in the transmission.
2. If you did put the B20 from a old lude in you would be stuck with that plus bolt-ons, there is no aftermarket support for them at all.
3. The swap will cost you alot more than just getting the engine and transmission. You have to buy a obd1 to obd0 harness($75 to $100), custom motor mounts($300 to $500), custom axels($350 to $400), you have to buy a hydro to cable conversion because the lude transmission is cable and the one in your civic is hydrolic so there is another $300, you have to buy a Prelude shifter assembly which is anywhere from $75 to $150.

So lets add all this up

$100 for obd conversion harness
$400 for motor mounts
$350 for axels
$300 for cable to hydro clutch conversion
$100 for shifter
$550 for engine and transmission

That comes to $1800, you can do a B18B swap or turbo your D15 for that.
