Default D16/d17?

hey guys, i just got a 95 hatch with a d15 no ps and no a/c.. the car is mint but the engine has a blown head gasket. i want to keep the transmission for now to keep costs down lol i was hoping to get a d16/d17 vtec and swap the ECU and everything because the car is already get stripped down. I was looking for information throughout the forrum and was hoping maybe someone has a D17 and has a link to some good information. or even directions with HCF lol

dont waste your time on a d17 its not compatible with d16, the d17 engine is totally different, just pull the d15 head off and put a d16z6 head on it, we have a well known member here who has a d16z6 head for sale he only wants 20 bucks for it, just has a bolt broke off in it and needs to be drilled and tapped, but is well worth the money and did come off running, i vouch for him. this swap is called a mini me swap its putting a d16vtec head on a d15 non vtec block, once you swap the heads get a d16z6 ecu (p28) it comes from any 92-95 civic ex or si, then run 2 wires from the vtec to the ecu, we have diagrams on how to wire the vtec.

vtec head for sale:

how to wire vtec up:
https://www.hondacivicforum.com/foru...ad.php?t=80683

for sohc vtec all you need to wire is the a4, d6 ecu pins dont worry about the others
i also have the ecu pins needed to wire vtec and sell them for $2.00 shipped

Default D17a2

iv been doing a lot of looking and iv decided that with the price i can get on a D17A2 it would be the power plant id like to go with. I was reading that any d series motor will mount to a D series transmission. if thats the case and i get the motor, wiring harnesses, computor and what not... wiring doesnt bother me at all im just wondering if i need new mounts and what not. if worst comes to worste i can cut and slice things to fit but of course i was hoping for relative ease... a d15 with a d16 vtec head sounds ok but id like to go with the D17 because its engagement point is at 3g i believe instead of 4.5g like with the D16Y8 cylinder head.... iunno just throwing stuff out there

having an earlier VTEC engagement point doesn't make the engine better, or even more powerful. And I doubt it even engages that early. The only ones i've ever heard of having a 3000 RPM crossover is VTEC-E, which isn't made for power. The VTEC point is set by Honda in its optimal point for maximum performance.

d17 engines are not swapable into your car, and also the d17 is a crappy engine, and there isnt any mods like the d15 and d16 and b seres motors have, now the d17 has its own trans and will not bolt up to a d15 or d16.

I wouldn't call it a "crappy" engine, more like an engine that isn't good for much other than keeping it the way it is. If you are interested in performance then the D17 isn't really a good choice. You can mod them but its much more costly and only produces similar results to a D16.

by crappy i ment by ""its not really user friendly"" civic enthusiests and gear heads like myself will all tell you the same thing, your best option is a mini me or swap to a b series motor, hell if you wanna stay sohc and have good torque swap a f22 accord motor n trans in, try to get the d17 out of ur ideas, not worth it, but if you wanna go ahead and do it, then go ahead i cant make u do or not do anything, all i can do is give good advise from experience.
