Thanks
it'll work. it's an overrated engine though, and doesn't have very good torque.
i think you should do a GSR swap (B18C1), an LS swap and turbo it (B18B1), or a mini-me swap and turbo it (D16Z6 head on your D15B7 block).

Default Need some help please!

Hey guys. im new here, just picked up a 1993 civic dx.
my problem is that it has a d16b motor that was put in it before i bought it.
ive noticed multipal sensors arent even pluged in and no wires to have pluged into them. the motor that was in the car stock was non-VTEC so im im wondering what do i need to do to the engine to make it smog legal and to just work properly. just a wiring harness that is VTEC or what?

thanks

are you talking about the motor model * or a serial number because usualy you see the VIN on the motor (easy to notice) but in most cases there talking about model # which i am assumin you are asking. it would be on the engine block below the header its in a sqaure space if you dojnt see it you might want to clean it beacauser that is the most accurate way to idenify your motor

Hi guys, new here so I ask your pardon if I miss information that was already stated (I know how to use search, but it's not always infallible).

I hope this doesn't make me any enemies, but I run domestic - my brother-in-law just got his first car and it's a 93 Honda Civic Si 1.6l 5spd, and he wants to build so this will be my first real foray into imports.

The first task is finding a new engine, his current one has 250k+ miles on it and we want something a little newer to work on before bolting on any major mods. Is the list provided in the initial post under Civic (hatchback), in particular these three engines;

(hatch)
4G ’90-’91 Civic SiR Japan EF B16A1 1595 10.4:1 160hp@7600/111lb-ft@7000
3G ’86-’87 Civic Si USA AH EW4 1488 8.7:1 91hp@5500/93lb-ft@4500 GM
3G ’86-’87 Civic Si Japan AT ZC 1595 9.6:1 129hp@6800/106lb-ft@5700 CG

... a list of drop in swaps? He's got big plans and a decent budget to work with, but it isn't unlimited and we'd like to do a quick n dirty swap to have a solid base on which to work.

Default Swap 94 ex

Hey,
I have a 94 Civic EX. D16z6. I am at a point where I am facing some major digging to repair some crank issues.
What would be a good swap for D16z6 engine. I am hearing one of the Acura engines, but dont know.
New to the civic world. Lots of Mech experience - looking for "Honda - Guidance"

On a cheap budget, another D16z6. You can usually pick up a running one for anywhere between $300 and $500 from someone who's swapped it out.

Slightly more expensive is the b18b from an Integra LS/GS/RS/etc. More power than a d16, an extra cam, but you're giving up vtec.

Around the same price as the b18b you can swap in a b16 from a jdm civic or an EM1 (99/00 civic Si). More power than the d16, an extra cam, vtec, but you're not really going to gain much torque out of the swap.

More expensive (~$4k) than the b18b/b16, you can swap in a b18c from a USDM Acura Integra GSR. A lot more power than the d16, an extra cam, and vtec, but still not a huge torque gain (though better than the b16).

For the same price as the B18c, you can swap in an H22 from a USDM/JDM Prelude. A lot more power than the d16, a lot more torque, an extra cam, and vtec. You'll need custom mounts to bolt it into your car and it requires a little more research than any of the previously mentioned swaps, and it's not great for forced induction applications.

For more than the B18c/H22a, you could swap in a K20a2 or an F20c. Neither of them are easy, and to get the F20c to work with a FWD transmission, you're going to have to mix-and-match to get the right mounts and transmission, as the only transmission available for the F20c is the S2000's RWD transmission. Also, your valve cover will face the firewall, meaning the lettering will be technically upside-down, which is a turn-off for me personally.

D16Z6 is one of the best single cam engines you can put in your car. It has the potential and can be had very cheap. Sounds though that the only thing you need is a block. Pick up a block with a good crank, redo the bearings and seals, slap your head on it and call it a day for now.
