Default best swap to g.h.ho n/a

hey guys been doing some research but confused myself lol.

pretty much i want a decent swap the car will be a daily driver, and weekends auto x, and maybe some back roads.

i only want to run n/a and i only want 180hp.

what would be the best swap for me because i need it to be reliable but i still want to have a little fun in it.

i was looking at the b16a3 but i keep getting mixed views from honda swap. then I was also looking at a b18c

i plan on doing the swap next summer, this summer is going to suspension, breaks, rims and tires.

i am also trying to set up my budget also for the project but i don't know where to start.

but for the sake of a buget lets say 2500 to get the motor dropped in and running reliable.

So after that which motor should i go to.

p.s i want a vtech but if that will be out of the budget anything else will be ok

First, what year do you have? That dictates what can and cannot be swapped in easily.

Also, for $2500 you're probably looking at a (non-vtec) b18b. By the time the engine is in the car and running, b16's tend to cost around $3k-$3500 and b18c's tend to cost around $4k.

And the best motor to use for a N/A car would the the H22a in my opinion; 200bhp (roughly 170whp) and 160ft*lbs of torque when the engine's bone stock.

Also, the b16 is perhaps the most overrated honda engine ever built.

As does mine, but there's almost no way anyone's going to swap an h22 into a civic for under $2500 unless they already have the engine sitting around. There's special mounts you have to buy, special axles, and for every swap you should replace components like the water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, plugs, wires, distributor, clutch, etc. The total in parts for the swap alone would be $1500+. That's why an h22 costs as much as a gsr swap; the engine's cheaper but you need to buy more special parts.

*edit: just noticed this was in EK swaps. OP, you can swap pretty much anything into it. But for $2500, you're pretty much limited to a junkyard b18b

But by God it makes for a sexy, fast civic

H22 or K20. H22 gets my vote though.

ok well the swap is gonna be done by me and my friends one of them was a mechanic for 5 years and he has a swap in his civic also. so all i have to pay for is the motor and all the parts to get it to run reliable.

i will be looking at the h22.

also if i get a b18b isn't that from the ls integra, couldn't i drop a b16 head on it and make it a ls/vtech or would it be to much trouble.

and i put 2500 as a base to see where i need to save up to. i am hoping to save up 3500 by next summer if everything goes right.

The h22 is a great motor, trust me. It makes a ton of both power and torque right out of the box. There's only two downsides that I really see, and that's the FRM sleeves (which are fairly weak if you want boost, which won't be a problem in this case) and it's (relatively) low redline. It wraps out to 7200, the same as sohc vtecs (compared to the 8k+ rev limit of vtec twin-cams).

And yes, you could take a b18b bottom end and turn it into an ls/vtec, but if you want to do it right and make it reliable, it's cheaper to just go out and buy a b18c.

If you find the right deals, you should be able to do an h22 swap for $3500.

well still doing research talk to some buddies around town one of the guys has a b16a2 in his garage just lying around. so I am thinking about taking it off his hands, and have a project making my car into "what if honda made a 4 door si".

but I am still taking into consideration the h22 cause it does sound awesome
