Default Mini me swap questions (why?)

Ok, I have a deal to pick up a complete Y8 for $140

I obviously have the option of just swapping the whole motor and tranny.

Is there any benefit to retaining the Y7 block and mating it with the Y8 head?

I was talking to a tuner today and he said the bottom end of a Y7 and a Y8 block are the same as far as he knows. (he never played with a Y7) If this is true then there is no benefit over a "mini me" vs a Y8. He said to actually make it create anything big you need to take the middle layer out of the head gasket, at which point you need to run 93 octane.

QUESTIONS:

IF he is wrong and mating the Y8 head to the Y7 block is better than a straight Y8 then my question becomes why?

and will it need tuned after swapping or will a stock Y8 ECU be fine?

and lastly can I run regular fuel still?

Thanks in advance!

i have seen in threads that you can change compression by changing thickness of the head gasket.. which would make the need for the higher octane fuel.. Y7 block is the same.. MINI swap is for people who wanna usually DIY a quick cheap 30 hp on thier econo Y7 boxes..

So swapping the whole motor won't make a difference or doing a mini me won't make a difference?
