Default The ol' swap vs keeping sohc D ?'s

I have a 99ex with the sohc D engine 81k. I have just bolted on the S2 IM & TB, Header/Catback, all MSD igntion system, cheap cold air intake and stage 2 clutch/flywheel.

Car is definately quicker and overall the mods are showing. Still, its pretty damn slow. That being said, I was thinking about a stage 2 cam & some nice springs/retainers. The more I think about the more I wonder if I should just get the money out of the intake and TB and buy a swap motor instead and mod that. The real questions I have here, is what motors should I be looking to put into it? Im not well versed on the array of honda motors other than what I have.

Any suggestions appreciated greatly, thanks for looking

It depends on how much power you're going for. All that plus a cam might get you close to 140hp at the wheels.

If you want more than that, you can save money over a swap by building a custom turbo kit which would send you over 200hp.

Build up the D and then save up and build your own turbo setup. When you have it all get a good tune. It will be cheaper than a swap

$1000 on a turbo kit and a good tune.......your turbo D series will rape any stock swap.....money wise too.

Build the D up. I love these little single cam engines, i wish i had the money to build a Turbo D or even an NA D that spanks up on some B's.

I completely agree. Just remember that your y8 rods can only handle about 200whp if you decide to turbo it.

<<<agree on boosting.. only thing you will have to resell is headers and intake .. you should be able to run quite a while on stock internals with that low of mileage.. then when you get some more cash down the road ... or something does break.. build the D and increase boost for serious power!!!
