Default 1994 EX... engine/O2 sensor?

Hi all..

1994 Civic EX 4-door.

Well, my wife's car's "check engine" light went on so we had Pep Boys pull a code and they came up with 41.

The list I have says it's for the "oxygen sensor heater"; I assume that's in the oxygen sensor and that the whole thing needs to be replaced..

Anyway, I see some different ones available, ranging from $60 to $300 and in order to know at least where to begin I need to know my engine size. I think it's either 1.6 or 1.5, and have been told both by various places.

So, that's basically my challenge... I have to figure out my engine size, but can't seem to find a reference either to what my engine size is (incl. on the head, where I could swear I once saw it) or a diagram of which lead is the O2 sensor.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks-
Andrew

1.6 Vtec. D16Z6 engine code. You have one o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold not far down the runner from the head. The plug for it goes in right by the distributor. Check all of hte connections before you just buy a new sensor.

Oh yeah, welcome to HCF.

Ok, now THAT was fast.

Thanks guys.

Quick follow up... what the heck to I use to loosen the manifold end?

The hex looks like it's set back too far to reach with a standard crescent.

[edit] Ah, and one more... I can release the connecting clip mid-wire, but cannot figure out how to get the clip detached from its mounting bracket! As tempted as I am to just force it..

thx again
Andrew

Well, so much for that.

I took it to the shop.

Hey, sorry. I didn't check the boards last night. What did they say at the shop? You may have had to take it anyway since getting that sensor out is a monumental task. That clip just slides off of it's mount though.

Well, they said they'll run diagnostics again and discount the cost of the original code pull. (41)

I'm pretty sure they'll at least have to replace the O2 sensor; who knows what else they'll "find" ?

I couldn't even come close to sliding the connector off the clip BTW... I tried for about 15 minutes and was reaching for my hammer when I thought it might be a better idea to ask...

I'm surprised that getting the sensor out is so unusual. A close friend could have done it (has his own machine shop etc. at home) but wasn't available. Ah well.

Heck, I remember when I used to be able to pull my 4-barrel carb off, clean it, and have it back on in 20 minutes... sheesh!

thx
Andrew

I just tried to pull mine out after taking the engine out, and I can't get it. It gets so hot right there that it sometimes pretty much melds the mani and the sensor together. I think i might take my old manifold down somewhere to see if they can get it off we've tried everything. Anyways that's why its so hard to get out.

You really have to bring the car up to temp to get those things out, otherwise forget it.

You could always do a carb conversion, Android.
