You're probably not going to see 200 WHP going N/A on a D-series

only transmissions you can use are D-series 92-00 hydro trannys

Are you sure the block doesn't say D15B7? It would make a lot more sense. lol

jsteele 08-16-2009 12:09 PM

There is a picture, in the Honda race car album, of the block code. Some are blurry, but a couple turned out, but they just say D15B. There are no other #s, but maybe i am looking at the wrong thing. Take a look you know more about this then I do, I am a SBC guy, check out the T Bucket, or Wagon Project album. That's What I know, but I am a quick learner, and I have 2 Honda's now, so I have to learn it.

Oh, then it's a JDM D15B

It comes with the VTEC head already on it. Basically it's a 1.5L block but has the head casting nearly identical to a D16Z6, but with different internals. The block is more similar to that of a D15Z1 than a D15B7. Stock cam is slightly more aggressive than a D16Z6 and the engine has a little bit higher compression. Buying parts for the block will be tricky, you'll have to do a lot of research on the JDM D15B. I have seen a site that says the specs of the different parts but I do not remember where it is. For the head, any parts that fit a D16Z6 should fit, since it's the same head casting.

Okay, is that good or bad? What do you recommend?

trustdestruction 08-16-2009 12:14 PM

It's good. The JDM D15B is quite possibly the best D-series engine Honda ever made.

Here's the site. It labels the official Honda part numbers. Some of them are unique and you'll have to do some digging around the 'net to figure out what fits. Some parts are the same as other engines' parts (such as some parts being identical to the VX part of the same kind (D15Z1)). By using that info you would look for aftermarket versions of that part that fit the VX, for example.

Some of these part numbers would also be nice to have such as when buying piston rings, gaskets, other maintenance items, etc.

Man, I really appreciate all your help, and quick responses. Now all I gotta do is get some parts, and go faster. LOL

Hi, I have the same problem as jsteele. But i have a 1989 honda civic si. would all the same information appliy to me or is it completley different?

Its diff. but not, You gain power by improving airflow through and out an engine. I run a 98 ex civic at Ogelthorpe speedway in Savannah GA. It has a d16y8. Was getting smoked by a integra b18, changed to stage 2 crower cam and swapped to a obd1 tuned ecu and now im smoking him. My next move is going to be a throttle body and 10 to 1 pistons. All said and done ill have about 1500 in motor. Jsteele, might wanna think about a trip to Screven motor speedway in Sylvania GA. around november, paying 6000 to win.

Almost forgot a good little Frankenstein is a d16y8 bottom end and a b16 head. That will put you close enough in range you can hit 200 hp with some cams and pistons. Yes it can be done, seen it at C.I.K. motorsports in Sav.

put headers on then replace the heat shield. you can also leave the headers outside and let them get rusty so it will look stock, but keep the inside clean
