Default 5th Gear

Hi, i drive a D16Y9/D16Y7. I dont know about other honda's but my 5th is like a donkey. I can hit 200kph in 4th gear but when i change to 5th the power and torque just dies out. The car slows down to around 150kph. Its really frustrating. Anybody have to same prob or know a solution?

Solution: make more power out of that engine, or swap in another.

the motor cant push that long of a gear ratio so it will intern slow the motor down so it doesnt work as hard. That is how my 5th gear was until i put some motor mods in and put in the turbo kit. Just start putting mods onto the engine and you will see a difference top end

I don't know why it would slow down, but like mental said, it's just a cruising gear. It's really tall and gives a huge mechanical advantage so that the motor doesn't have to spin so fast to stay at highway speeds. If it bothers you that much, swap in an Ex/Si tranny.

Compared to every other car, i think it should at least keep its speed on a flat road. Gonna shop around for the trans and see what happens. Thanks guys

if ur saying that in 5th it actually starts to slow down and not just have no real acceleration then ur clutch may be going.. check and make sure ur not slipping out of gear.. i had this problem with an old dodge shadow.. up hills mainly.. it would keep popping out of gear in 5th.. ended up being clutch going out

No no. It doesnt pop out of gear. Actually recently i just replaced the gearbox seals, shaft and bearing. The oil leaked onto my clutch and i thought i was worn out but my mech sez it was the seals and the bearings and shaft wasnt too good either, so i asked him to sort it out. Had to put in a new clutch as well. All these parts are brand new (4 wks old now). Its been like this since i got the car. Maybe it was a bad buy
