what makes it worse is trying to restart after the belt breaks. if you're handy with the steel, you could put the belt back on and listen for the valves....you might get lucky.

I was by a mechanic that a Honda motor was a free running motor and if the timing belt broke that the valves would not get hurt. It will hurt the valces in a ford Focus or a ford car.

i broke the belt on my 89 escort gt and it didnt hurt the valves, dont know if that applies to the ford thing. but i know the b-series will hit, not 100% sure about the d-series, though i think it is interfering heads.

Yep, sac, both the 1st and 2nd Generation 1.9 SEFI CVH Ford Escort motors are non interference.

If you post things in the right forum I won't have to move them.

Anyway... back on topic.

As Sac said, B series are interference, but I am also unsure if the D series are or are not.
