Default 98 Civic LX

Hey guys, I just bought a 98 civic LX with the 1.6 SOHC and I want to swap the engine with something better. Can you give me ideas what will slide in there with the least amount of issues.

There are tons of threads on this already. It's all going to depend on what you want out of your car. What kind of power or torque are you looking for? Your LX has a D16y7 engine which is non vtec. You can put a y8 head on it, run 2 wires, and change the computer to gain vtec which will add a little more power or you can swap in a B series engine like a B16a2 or b18b1. If you want to go the big block route, there's the H series.

B series is the least hassle though.

I'd do a B series swap. They'll go in the easiest. And seem to be the most popular. So getting parts will be easy. Plus they have more power and potential then your D series.

Default Thanks

Thanks alot, that's exactly the information I was looking for. The motor has 267000 miles on it so I don't trust building that up. I'll lookinto the b series and rebuild the one I pull. Thanks again
