Default B16 Deficiencies?

Does the B16 have any common design problems?

My D16 is getting close to 125k miles, and I'm curious if I should look for a B16 when the time comes, or just rebuild this motor and try to fix the design flaws I keep hearing about (such as poorly designed rod bearings and insufficent oiling).

I would like to stick with the motor I already have but I keep hearing about some serious problems with them...

If I were to rebuild the D16, I would probably build it for a boost setup. And BTW: I will be doing all the labor myself (I've done rebuilds before) so no need to discuss labor costs.

i would rock the b16, i had one in my 99 si and i loved it, it walks up and down on single overhead y8's. my opinion is go for the b16 its worth the money. they can handle 10psi any day and parts are easier to find then you can imagine.

I'm really liking the thought of the B18C1 the more I look at the swap info in the swap section. But I have a feeling they're spendy...

Also, what's an "LS VTEC Swap"??? I came across a b18 head with that in the description?

Lsvtec is where you use an LS block with a b16or b18 head on it.. or any b-series head on an ls block with vtec. or u could maybe do a CRVtec. where u use and crv block and a b16 or 18 head.

im doin a GSR swap into my 99si and ditching my b16a2 for temporary.

remember,
everythign's expensive... but you gotta pay to play lol

It looks like there is a $700 difference between the B18 and the B16 swaps on ebay...

If you're going to boost anyways, is the b18 worth the extra money? I'd only be looking at 200-225hp.

the B16 is the most overrated swap in the history of history. mainly because you gain about 5 ft-lbs of torque over your D16. and that really isnt an underexagerration.

how much are you lookingt o spend on a swap?

If those are ur hp goals then stick with the B16. It will spit out 225hp no problem w/ boost. Use the money u save to get suspension or brake upgrades b/c you'll need em!!

not if your like me and have the parts laying around [8D] you wont regret going b16 though. i however love the fact that sohc's are cheap and abundant.

i know my friend just got a ctr b16 dropped into his civic hatch....

b16a=168 @ 7800 rpm, 116 lb/ft @ 7300 rpm

vs

d16z6=125 @ 6600 rpm, 106 lb/ft @ 5200 rpm

so yeah only like 10 more lb/ft of torque

cant wait to see what my turbo single can do against his b16 swapped dx at the drag strip, wonder who will win

ur friend has a b16b not b16a

b16b 185hp@8200rpm 118tq@7500

torque sux but what honda engine is? the b18c5 has the highest torque in the 1.6/1.8 category at 130ft/lb. i say go b16 and boost.
