Default Best Engine?

Hi everyone, I'm kinda new to the scene and I don't know too much. I have a few questions: What is the best engine I can get for less than 2000$ that I can customize the most? I want to put a turbo and NOS in there eventually. Also, I've noticed that the H22A engine is significantly less expensive than other engines with comparable horsepower. Why is that? Would the H22A fit into my car, and would it be good for customization? I have a 2002 4DR Civic LX Manual. Thanks in advance for helping a newbie.

by customizing do you mean modding? and i dont know why? i know you have to a lot of fab work when you want to swat it into a civ. its more suited for a accord. and ive heard of a h22 not being able to hold that much boost with not good result. is $2000 all you want to spend? because a good swap would be a k20A. i think that might be the easiest swap.

Yes I mean modding, my bad. I'm not exactly rolling in the dough so I cant afford anything much over 2000$. Would a B series be more practicable?
Or should I just save up for a while and go for a K20?

for a clean motor that is around $2000 you can get b16 or ls swap......now for a hot motor $2000 can get you gsr, b16, ls, h22... if you can get one off the streets....
h22 swap into a civic would be almost as fast as a k20 swap if the h22 is running right...my friend has a k20 swap and a h22 swap can keep up with him...
you can also get a ls swap for around 1200 or less from salvage or junk yards and use the rest of you money to boost it or put a vtec head on it or both ls vtec turbo...

do an ls or a ls with a gsr head which is pretty simple to do or if u can find a cheap GSR motor in good condition then i'de do it, but with any block you get ur not goin to know the exact miles that are on the engine, with some exceptions of course,

im doin a b16A swap into my 99 si which had the b16a2 in it to start with

If you are planning on running this vehicle on the street and it being LEGAL the only swap you have open to you is a K20 swap. About 6k.

K20 is the only legal swap?

Yeah, you can only swap in an engine of the same year or newer. And K20 is pretty much the only one that will fit(without major modification).

^ You could also do a k24 swap. But it might take a little extra work.

You can not swap anything other than other D17's and K series engines into your car, there simply is not the aftermarket support to do a B series swap into it plus you would be putting a 10+ year old engine in a 4 year old car which makes no sense unless it is fully built and you are racing it.
