Default BLOWN HEAD

Not my car... my friend's eg (d16z6) just blew about a week ago. He has oil all over his trans and block, total mess. It was running for a few days on what we're pretty sure was 3 cylinders but now it refuses to start. He's about to abandon hope and part out his car but I'm begging him not to. I told him he should buy a d15b and swap it in (told him it would cost around $700... hopefully I wasn't lying). Do you guys think he should do the swap, rebuild, or abandon hope? BTW: He has a full greddy turbo kit that he never got around to installing along with a crower cam (I told him he should sell it to buy the swap), what price do you think he could put on that stuff?

From what I understand a z6 isn't as good as a d15... also, I can get a JDM d15 complet for around $500... my question is more about labor and in the end what would be most cost-effective, rebuilding his z6 or swapping in a d15b?

Still doesn't answer my question... and there are several other threads on here comparing the d16's to the d15's and the general verdict is that the d15 is better by a small margin, anyway, his intrest in the d15 is more around the fact that they are JDM and have low milage

I would say that the JDM D15B (which has VTEC) is betterthan the D16Z6 because of the better compression. The JDM engine will cost you more. The JDM engine will be better.

+ 1 if he wants to turbo, why talk about a 1.5 litre engine being better then a 1.6 litre when there is only a 5 hp difference on stock? Hes boosting, he will be forcing the engine to make lots power and 5 hp isnt going to make any diff...addiction2bass has it dead on
