Hey Guys,
Is it even remotely possible to convert my Manual 04 Civic LX with SOHC to a DOHC? Can i add a VTEC? Or is a simple engine swap better?

you can add VTEC by doing a mini-me swap, which includes putting a VTEC head onto a non-VTEC block along with a VTEC ECU. Just Google "Mini-Me Swap" and you'll see whats up. There might even be a DIY here on HCF about it

 

Forget google, just use the search function on this forum to find whatever answers you're looking for. Unfortunetly since you have a 7th gen, your swap options are pretty limited.

 

you can't literally convert a SOHC to a DOHC, either buy a vtec head, new ecu, and a vtec selenoid or just buy a whole new motor.. if your looking for a big gain, just swap motors.. for like 20ish hp just get the vtec head.

 

Nothing on your car is simple as far as making it faster beside n2o. Sorry man they really gummed the 7th gens up good.

 

if you dont know what your doing dont mess with the mini meswap your car will never run the same...on the other handif your planning on taking it some where be ready to putout $1300 on the table...thats alot of money for 20 h.p

As ole marty stated, forget it. I also hate to inform you that your specific generation of civic is that bastard of all. If you plan on going faster than an I/H/E either get another car/civic to work on or drop in a k20. Another car is actually a much easier option.
