car i want 2 buy has "rod knock"
There's a '93 civic ex coupe in my local area but the seller says that it has a "rod knock". I'm assuming that's a broken rod. What are my options? Should I try to fix this myself or just buy a new motor for $400.
Oh and she's trying to sell it for $1600. Should I be able to talk the price down to under a thousand?

$1600 hundred and she says there a rod knocking wtf hell yeah u should get that under $1k. If she doesnt know any better its going to cost more to either replace the engine or the rod or if its even the rod in the first place. I would highly urge u not to buy the car. It could be more trouble than its worth.

tell her its gonna cost about 600 to replace the engine so ask 1000 for it. I would check it over first though make sure everything else works on it. you could use that 600 and put a b18b1 in it

600 aint bad. You could buy another D series engine for like 4-500$ and swap it in yourself....Ive never done a swap before, but as long as youre putting the exact same engine in the car, mark all the sensors and youll be good to go. That being said.....Figure 600+500=1100 for a honda with under 50,000 miles? Re-sell it for 3,000 and make a few bucks for beer and stuff.

Same series swaps are cake, especially if it's the same engine.
However, honestly, with how many Civics are out there you're better off not getting that one. She probably never changed the oil...[&:]
