HELP! Diagnose Rod Knock?
forgive my ignorance in advance, for i do not know much about cars.
ive got an '02 civic, with aprox 210k ive always ran full synth oil. recently the oil light came on. so ive added two quarts of oil and read full. two days pass by and i get up to go to work and warm up my car and i hear a knocking noise. sounds like a hammer hitting the engine. it knocks on ignition and when i accelerate, ive stopped driving it since since ive been told if i keep driving it, it would eventually throw a rod and go right through the block. ive checked the car for oil leaks and nothing. been told it is rod knock . i know it would be hard to say without hearing the noise but my question is. if it is rod knock. would it be cheaper to get another engine? or is there a possibility for a rebuild? and what are the approximate cost for both?
