Hello,

I noticed white smoke coming out the hood and liquid dripping down. When i opened the hood, i could easily locate the leak. Since the liquid is greenish and the coolant reservoir is almost empty (i filled it a month back) I am sure it is the coolant. Here are the pics of the leaking area taken later.










I am not sure what part to replace (heater hose?) and how to do it. Do I have to remove the water pump as it seems hard to reach the hose clamp?

Any help regarding the part to replace and tools to use will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I recently got this 6th gen Civic (first car) and do not have any exp working on it. But this seems fixable without going to the mechanic.

 

The water pump is on the other side of the engine...

It's the heater hose, as you've correctly identified it.

Anyway, you just remove the hose and replace with new (be ready for coolant to go everywhere... put a drain pan under the car to catch all the coolant that comes out). Pretty self explanatory.

Then you fill the radiator up with 50/50 mixed antifreeze, and the same with the coolant reservoir. Leave the radiator cap off. Slide your A/C temperature all the way to heat, and start the engine. Let it idle... you will see air bubbles escaping the coolant in the radiator filler neck... if the coolant level in the radiator goes down, keep adding coolant to bring the level back up to the bottom of the filler neck. Once air stops escaping (can take a while), turn the engine off. Put the radiator cap back on and you're done.

gallon of 50/50 mix coolant... you may need more than a gallon, depending on how much coolant you lost

tools needed:
drain pan
pliers
your hands
