Default D16Y8 Oil Pan Replacement

So I'm planning on replacing the oil pan on my 1999 ex (D16Y8 engine). The drain plug threads stripped out at an oil change a while back. I tapped a larger drain hole for a short term fix.......until I could do a proper fix and replace the oil pan.

Decided to go with a NAPA steel oil pan. They ordered in a pan for the car (1.6L, SOHC, Vtec), but it looks differnt on the inside than the OEM oil pan. The NAPA steel pan appears to have a baffle welded in there, the OEM does not. Take a look at the pictures below. Do you think the NAPA pan will fit properly with the baffle?

I did this once too. Replaced the pan with another OEM one and they both had a baffle in there...

Great link.....thanks! The OEM oil pan with the bolt-in baffle looks very much like the NAPA steel pan with the welded baffle. I'm thinking they ordered me the right pan now.

You're going to need the gasket that goes with that pan though. The D16Y8 gasket is different. I think it will still fit though...

Good point....I did order a new oil pan gasket along with the new pan, also from NAPA.

From you picture, that pan just looks like an oem d16y7 oil pan. When getting the gasket just asked that you want the oil gasket for a d16y7 because the d16y8 gasket is different.

d16y8 oil panhas a little groove where the gasket fits sothe gasketis a little roundwhile d16y7 uses a flat gasket.

Also, once you finished installing your new pan, your are going to have two metal supporter left since your new oil pan does not have the screw holesthat the d16y8 has to attached them. Just don't worry about them, you will be fine without the supporters.

Right on about the gasket. NAPA ordered the gasket according to the engine code (d16y8)....turned out to be the wrong one that fit the OEM pan. They ordered in the d16y7 (flat) gasket that will work with the pan that I posted pictures earlier.

Finally got the right parts together to get the job done!

Thanks gsumano, you were dead on with your advice. Got the gasket for the d16y7 engine (it works with the pan that I posted pics of).Replaced the pan last weekend, all is well....no leaks!

when u took ur car to get an oil change did you take it to a store or over to a buddys house? THe reason why Im asking is if the store screwed up your oil pan you should be able to get your money back for the pan ad gasket. Just a food for thought.
