You are correct on the location of the cylinder(#1 on the driver side ending #4 on passenger side). When the head is out and if it in TDC, you will see # 1 & 4 cylinder should be up all the way, if not.. you need to turn da crank until both (1&4) reach the top.

RE: D16Z6 #1 TDC ????
Thank you. The book i was using was pretty vague. Ok this is my problem. Blew my original motor (#3 rod threw the block), bought a used junk yard block for $100. Had the dead rebuilt and new valves due to the busted piston.I rotated the crank around and the #4 never reached the top. Could someone have replaced that rod in the past with a rod out of a non-vtec motor? If i use this motor... how will it perform? Thanks for the input...

LOW compression, prob. run like a lawnmower.. since you haven't install it yet.. drop da oil pan and take a look, check to see any broken parts/loose.. my guessing is either something broke/loose or bout to break.. never know.. !! cuz it doesn't make sense at all at this point why it wouldn't comes up.. I woulddn't suggest you to install it.. oh.. also try to turn da piston my hand (clock/counterclock) see me there movement, it shouldn't be any movement tho.
