Default Engine swap

After deciding not to go with the H23A1 (278,000k) I have decided to just go with another stock D16Y7. I found one out of a '99 civic, (going into my '97) has like 127,000 on it, and the wrecker wants like $1000 engine and trans. What I'm wondering is, can I do a mini-me swap on a D16Y7 in the future? I know it can be done on the Y8, just not sure about the Y7... Any comments?

WAY WAY TOO MUCH $$$, you should be able to get one for $200 (unless the price includes installation)

Yes, you can do a VTEC head swap on a D16Y7. The D16Y8 already has a VTEC head

Wow, serious? This is in Canada, includes engine and trans, from just a local wrecker here in small town. The car was just written off like yesterday, someone took off the rear end, so the engine's still fine. I've probably called like 7 or 8 wreckers, some were cheaper, but the engines were older, and had a lot more miles (km) on them.

Ok, I don't know what the prices/availability are like in Canada. But you might have better luck buying one from a private seller.

Ya eh, well, my piston rings are gone, I'm going through oil like gasoline, and I'm getting like 20mpg. My options are slightly limited, lol. A friend has a garage, and I'll probably save a bundle in labour costs, so either way, I'm gonna have to pay. Thanks for the heads-up though.
