Default H22 engine swap.

I bought a h22 engine and tranny for my son 2000 civic ex. Does anyone have any tips they can share before I change out engine and tranny? The engine came complete with ECU, wiring and other accessories.

If the engine will be in need of a timing belt and water pump soon i would definitely do it before you put it in. Heck i would do it anyway. any other maintaince or performance parts that you could put on before installing the motor would be a good idea.

i heard h22 is a big heavy engine. so i think youre gonna have to upgrade the suspension for better handling. and also because a h22 is so big, to put it into a civic you gotta cut some things to make it fit. so basically its gonna be a lot of work to get it in there. good luck tho. a civic with a h22 in it should be pretty quick.

im not sure. im still learning a lot about hondas and cars in general myself. but my suggestion is to ditch the h22 and swap in a b series motor. from what ive read, h22's are jus too much work and money to get in the civic and running.
theres not only cutting, but also suspension, axles to support the weight, maybe having to remove things like a/c and power steering to make room?, i not exactly sure what all there is that you need to do. but i do kno that its a lot of hard work and should only be done by someone that is really experienced.
try using the search button to find more things to read about it. and check out honda-tech.com to see if you can find any info over there about this swap.
sorry i couldn help. maybe someone else might be able to.

Do you have the new motor mounts too? One or more of the stock ones will need to be replaced.

I'm assuming of course that you have the engine, tranny, mounts, axles, shift linkage, harness, and ECU for said engine... right?

If so, nothing needs to be cut in that car. You just need to swap the engine harness, put in the shift linkage, mounts, and then drop the engine and tranny in.

Um, I'd personally do all maintenance before dropping it in, and if your son plans to boost the car... get the block SLEEVED!

Otherwise, by all means, drop er in.

eh...i'd just say drop it in and boost to 250+hp. the H22 is good for 300+hp on stock internals (theoretically speaking...its good for almost 400...but i wouldnt push it anywhere near that far...i'd be happy with 280).

Oh God dont start this. Whats with the s*** talking the H! Its a great engine! I dont know much about engines and I did an H swap with a chick I know in one week. She knew less than me, if you want to get a full walk through and do the swap step by step, get this.... http://www.ultimateresourceguides.co...swap/index.php

We bought it for 50 bucks and it did the swap for us, we were the helpers...

Oh and I dont know if your civic has cable or rod tranny shift linkage. If it has rod, the only thing you must cut is a hole in the firewall for the cable to go through.
