Default help with 97 honda civic

i have a 97 honda civic ex coupe with a v-tec. it has about 115,000 miles on it. i was wondering what i could do to give it some giddy up and go cuz just about all of my friends are beating me when i race them. i am afraid if i put a turbo in it that it may blow my engine then i would be out another few thousand. is there any thing else besides dropping a new engine it or buying a turbo that will give it alot more power.

if you have a 97 ex then you do have a vtec engine, even though it doesnt say vtec anywhere on the car or engine. your engine is a d16y8 SOHC VTEC

o, i thoght it had to say v-tec on it to be a v-tec. alright, so u think it might be risky to throw a turbo in it? mine is only a single cam v-tec though, how much more power would i get out of running a double cam v-tec? what r u running in yours?
