Default hey guys tech question here

hey all ok so i got a 97 civic ex with some bad *** rod knock so i start searchin for a new short block this guy has a d16a6 motor he just had bored over .14 40k ago before he got a b18, anyhow i was wondering about what modifications i will need to do to use this block, i've done a little bit of reading and found that this is considered a mini me swap for people with the a6 stock and wondered if there are any problems i might encounter and if there will be any gain from using this block over a y8 block

Just get another block from an ex 96-00. It's not worth it to switch blocks just because the first one you found is from a different year. Search around and get one that will direclty replaces yours.

the a6 is a completly better engine than the y8. it has steel main caps and not to mention doesnt have the same oiling issues the 96+ y motors have. there is only 2 problems you will encounter.

1-lack of crank angle sensor on the a6 blcok
2-location and plug of thermal fan switch is different

you would end up having to use the y8 oil pump just to be able to keep the CAS. the fan switch problem is no biggie. also putting the y8 head on this a6 will bump the compression up some. personally i would make the a6 work, for sohc 1.6's i only choose the a6 and z6 all others have issues that i do not want to encounter.
