Default How Strong is my Engine?

I know Honda's can be beat on pretty good, but how much of a beating can my engine handle? 1998 Civic DX with an automatic transmission and 172,640 miles on it.

..............What is your question? Are we talking hitting your engine with a hammer? or with a boxing glove?

Wrong and wrong again. I'm talking about a baseball bat.

How rev-happy is my engine? There, is that better?

well i wouldnt go hard on it, anything will be unreliable if you beat on it. if it was properly taken care of, you should be fine. just keep up with maintenance and dont beat on it haha.

Yeah... I wouldn't beat too hard on that engine. Honda engines will last forever if maintained but they WILL degrade if you start driving your little 4 banger econobox like it's a race car. I would be especially careful since you have an automatic transmission. Those can't take a beating like manual transmissions can.

In short, if you wanna beat on your car, get a Mustang.

gah, i never really liked mustangs. stock ones atleast. all the rich preppy kids at school drive their parents (who are going through mid-life crisis) mustangs and think their badass. the ONLY mustang i really have respect for would be reapers because he is building it up and not leaving it stock and thinking he is the ****.. hondas are one of the most durable cars, but even so, if you beat on it, it wont last. thats with any car. if you want 300k+, drive it normal. Dont race, rev, or do stupid **** and it will last you. but even if you blow your motor, new ones arent that expensive. the expensive part is labor

Relax people, relax
I think "beat" was too strong of a word. I've had the car for almost two years and I've only hit 5,000RPM ONCE and that's the hardest I've ever pushed it (I think the redline is 6,200RPM, I have a cluster from a '99 EX, I think that's the right year/model, in there and it's marked 6,800RPM). I had to do this so I could merge onto the highway at 8:30 this past Monday morning. I cringed when I did it and that's what got me thinking about this question.
