Default Making my 94 EX faster

I recently got a 1994 manual EX Coupe with the 125hp VTEC engine. I was wondering if anyone knew what I could upgrade in order to make it go faster. I've looked into getting a cold air intake or something but I've heard it really doesn't make that much of a difference. I'm not really looking for turbo or nas either. Any ideas?

Thanks

well, welcome to the forums! I'm sure you'll find a ton of answers around here.

Going fast all depends on your budget. Starting off, an intake, header, and cat-back exhaust combo will free up a few horses... 10-15 would be on the high estimate side. Still, it's not the horsepower gain that really makes a difference with these mods, it's the increased throttle response. Also, to take full advantage of an intake, maybe look into a throttle body, intake manifold, camshaft (stage II or higher), and full valvetrain (valves, valve springs, valve spring retainers).

So how much would all of this cost, and how much of an improvement would i see?

I suggest you doa LOT more research before you start buying any parts. Just use the search feature on this forum and you should find answeres to most of your questions. If your drivetrain is good in your car, I would just go turbo

Start us off with a budget and then tell us what kinda power or how fast your looking for out of the car because I'm sure fast to you is maybe not really fast to me or the next guy or vice versa

For me the intake, header and exhause route is really not worth the price. With that route you nearly spend near $1,000 and for hardly any noticiable horsepower gain. I would recommend to rather save your money and go force induction or nitrous if you really want to see power difference.

I could spend spend around 1,000 - 1.5k probably and with that money im obvisouly not trying to turn it into a drag racing supercar but I'm just looking for a noticeable change in the power of the car because I feel like it has good potential.

Intake - $100 (ebay SRI tube, AEM dry-flow filter)
header - $150 (megan racing or hedman chikara header)
exhaust - $500-ish
-or-
-$80 (muffler)
-$150 ish (custom cat-back at a muffler shop)
TB -$275 (skunk2... I didn't feel like looking around for lower prices)
Intake mani -$250 (skunk2... the lowest price I found, but I'm sure there's others just as cheap, if not cheaper)
Stage II cam -$350 (crower stage II)
full valvetrain - $700ish (skunk2 springs, retainers, and valves)

total (if you get everything, with custom exhaust instead of pre-made) - $2,055

^ that's just a rough estimate. And you could probably go with a b18, h22, etc. throttle body and a d16y8 intake mani and still get good gains (for a few hundred less)
