RE: N22A1
We already have the 2.2 i-CTDi engine in our sport, SE, S, ES, and EX 07 civic line up. The reason why they waited so long is because they started from scratch. they watched their competitors struggle for years and had to make it like nothing that had been done before.
The engine itself is made in a revolutionary semi-solid process that gives great stiffness and strength. It is also the quietest most refined diesel in the world. But not only that, you also get performance and it is one of the cleanest in existence meeting all the Euro emission standards.
Kenichi Nagahiro. Cheif Honda Engineer. The man who created the VTEC engine. The man who helped develop the F1 team. The man who hated diesels. Until, that is, he was asked "Could he ever love a diesel?" He replied, "If it is the best". So he set about creating something he fell in love with.

Since it's invariably going to be compared to the VW Golf TDi, I looked up the specs on the 2.0L VW TDi engine. It's a 14 valve 4cyl engine. With the stock turbo and intercooler, running an 18.5:1 compression ratio, it makes 170hp @ 4000 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque @ 1800 rpm.
Oh, score, found a little bit more info on the n22. Bore and Stroke: 85.0mm x 97.1mm, Displacement: 2204cc, Output: 103kW
Another link for you.
looks like the n22 is running a 16.7:1 compression ratio. some VW enthusiasts were expressing doubt that the aluminum block of the N series could handle anything higher. I'd say it can't hurt to find out. Honda claims the lower compression ratio helps to keep noise down, a major design goal of the engine. For racers, noise has never been an issue, so let's see what happens when people start upping the compression.
We may vary well have a tdi-pd killer on our hands.

The first diesel engine developed and built in house
by Honda. All the main castings are in aluminium
alloy. Features include twin balancer shafts, and inlet
manifold with a twin plenum port deactivation system
to achieve variable swirl, and an offset crankshaft.

I think it looks like crap, I'm sorry but IMO it does and if they import it I dont care what motor is in it I will never own one. Kinda like the EP hatchs. The last hatch worth a crap IMO is the EK.

I didnt like the 7th gen hatch very much but I would still own one! The new civic is sexy and the redezign is a really nice move for Honda... even the newest SI w/4 doors is a step up. Honda gets a little more credit from me especially by using Diesel! BIO DIESEL roCkS!
