No power to civic

i was changeing out my old crank pulley to a small size on a D15b7 engine but i cant find the right belt to make it work. So i disconnect the alternator and was going to change out the pulley for it but still didnt work. when i hook it back up and try to turn it over i had now power at all. The battery is fulling charged and getting power to the starter but none to the alternator or the fuse box inside the car. please assit

RonJ 01-24-2009 12:26 PM

Check whether fuse 41 (80A) or 39 (50A) under the hood is blown.

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 12:35 PM

what crank pulley are you using?
what accessories does it have on it?
and on what engine?

Can't tell if that means he has a D15B7, or if the crank pulley is from a D15B7. Doesn't tell me what accessories it has, etc. Need to know what crank pulley he is using.
I'm trying to figure out what belts he needs. I'll let you take care of the troubleshooting his car starting problems.

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:09 PM

its about a 51/2 dia new crank pulley. i tried to use a 275k4 belt and its to small to fit.

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:10 PM

yes its a D15b7 engine but going to a smaller size pulley.

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:10 PM

what brand is it?
I assume the only accessory is the alternator?

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:11 PM

i have power to all the fuses under the hood. but nothing on the inside fuse box

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:12 PM

yes im using it on the D15b7 engine.

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:14 PM

i just need the alternator belt

if no brand, do you happen to know the size of the original pulley on the alternator grooves?

With this info I can calculate it to tell you how long the new belt needs to be.

and the 51/2 diameter... is this in inches, centimeters, what?

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:21 PM

the alternator has 4 grooves just like the new crank pulley. yes 51/2 inches the only size of belt i tried to use was a 27.5 and the orignal is a 30.5 4 groove

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:23 PM

no, i need to know the size of the original pulley, not the belt

you sure it's inches, that would make your crank pulley 25.5" in diameter...

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:25 PM

its 21/2 inch pulley on the alternator

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:28 PM

the orignal crank pullet is 6.5 inches in diameter

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:29 PM

alright cool
i'm gonna do some math to figure it out and i'll get back to you in a couple minutes

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:30 PM

wait, that still doesn't make sense, because that would make the original pulley smaller than the new one.

you said the new pulley is smaller.

is the new pulley smaller or bigger than the old one?

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:32 PM

its roughly around a 1.5inches smaller than the old one

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:37 PM

so the new crank pulley is around 5" in diameter?

is the alternator pulley aftermarket too?

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:39 PM

no the alternator pulley is not an after market part. i would like to go to that with it.

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:41 PM

i'd try a 28.5" belt

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:43 PM

i try to find one that size but i cant find one anywhere of that size.
any input to find one?

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:46 PM

i'm having trouble finding one too
maybe a 295k4 belt will work.

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:50 PM

that sucks dude!
i didnt think they made a 295ka belt? if they do i tried auto zone and advance auto.

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:50 PM

that solves one problem of mine.
now the power issue im haveing. when i turn the key on i dont get anything

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 03:55 PM

RonJ's gonna have to help you out with that one... you got me stumped

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 03:59 PM

i think i when i took the terminals off the alternator it started to spark.
i forgot to take the positive terminal off the battery.

trustdestruction 01-24-2009 04:00 PM

to me that sounds like a fuse somewhere probably blew.
are you sure none of the big under the hood fuses are blown?

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 04:04 PM

i dont think so. dose the alternator run off the big fuse?

RonJ 01-24-2009 04:08 PM

Did you check the under-hood fuses I mentioned?

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 04:10 PM

no i didnt check all of them.

RonJ 01-24-2009 04:15 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Check whether fuse 41 (80A) or 39 (50A) under the hood is blown.

Attachment 22514

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 04:24 PM

ok i check the cable that runs to the alternator and no power going to it.

2fastcivic94 01-24-2009 04:56 PM

any answers for me on that?

RonJ 01-24-2009 05:34 PM

Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses.

bcivic 01-26-2009 12:19 PM

You dont need the alternator for the car to start up so if thats your problem check all the connections from the battery terminal to the fusebox to the starter and then check the fuses

If either fuse 39 or 41 are blown (which seems likely), the engine won't be able to start. This should be checked first.

2fastcivic94 01-26-2009 07:01 PM

that fix the problem. number 41 fuse blew.. thanks guys for your help!!!
