No power to civic
i was changeing out my old crank pulley to a small size on a D15b7 engine but i cant find the right belt to make it work. So i disconnect the alternator and was going to change out the pulley for it but still didnt work. when i hook it back up and try to turn it over i had now power at all. The battery is fulling charged and getting power to the starter but none to the alternator or the fuse box inside the car. please assit

Check whether fuse 41 (80A) or 39 (50A) under the hood is blown.
|
what crank pulley are you using?
what accessories does it have on it? and on what engine? |

FYI Trust.
I'm trying to figure out what belts he needs. I'll let you take care of the troubleshooting his car starting problems. |
its about a 51/2 dia new crank pulley. i tried to use a 275k4 belt and its to small to fit.
|
yes its a D15b7 engine but going to a smaller size pulley.
|
what brand is it?
I assume the only accessory is the alternator? |
i have power to all the fuses under the hood. but nothing on the inside fuse box
|
yes im using it on the D15b7 engine.
|
i just need the alternator belt

With this info I can calculate it to tell you how long the new belt needs to be. and the 51/2 diameter... is this in inches, centimeters, what? |
the alternator has 4 grooves just like the new crank pulley. yes 51/2 inches the only size of belt i tried to use was a 27.5 and the orignal is a 30.5 4 groove
|
no, i need to know the size of the original pulley, not the belt
you sure it's inches, that would make your crank pulley 25.5" in diameter... |
its 21/2 inch pulley on the alternator
|
the orignal crank pullet is 6.5 inches in diameter
|
alright cool
i'm gonna do some math to figure it out and i'll get back to you in a couple minutes |
wait, that still doesn't make sense, because that would make the original pulley smaller than the new one.
you said the new pulley is smaller. is the new pulley smaller or bigger than the old one? |
its roughly around a 1.5inches smaller than the old one
|
so the new crank pulley is around 5" in diameter?
is the alternator pulley aftermarket too? |
no the alternator pulley is not an after market part. i would like to go to that with it.
|
i'd try a 28.5" belt
|
i try to find one that size but i cant find one anywhere of that size.
any input to find one? |
i'm having trouble finding one too
maybe a 295k4 belt will work. |
that sucks dude!
i didnt think they made a 295ka belt? if they do i tried auto zone and advance auto. |
here we go

alrite your the man.
that solves one problem of mine. now the power issue im haveing. when i turn the key on i dont get anything |
RonJ's gonna have to help you out with that one... you got me stumped
|
i think i when i took the terminals off the alternator it started to spark.
i forgot to take the positive terminal off the battery. |
to me that sounds like a fuse somewhere probably blew.
are you sure none of the big under the hood fuses are blown? |
i dont think so. dose the alternator run off the big fuse?
|
Did you check the under-hood fuses I mentioned?
|
no i didnt check all of them.
|
1 Attachment(s)
|
ok i check the cable that runs to the alternator and no power going to it.
|
any answers for me on that?
|
Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses. Check the two fuses.
|
You dont need the alternator for the car to start up so if thats your problem check all the connections from the battery terminal to the fusebox to the starter and then check the fuses
