Default Oil sludge

I went to get an oil change and they told me I need to flush out the oil because it was black and i had sludge. The shop wanted to charge like $100 more or less. Can I flush it out myself? If so what are the steps. Thanks for the help.

just get some royal purple and do a regular oil change. Then in 3k miles do another oil change. After that you could prolly back off to every 5k. The royal purple will help remove any sludge that is still left in your engine, but most of it will just poor out when you empty the oil...
