rear main seal

Default rear main seal

anyone have any tips on how to change the rear main on a y8?

pull the tranny out. and take off the flywheel.... and BE SURE TO USE THE RIGHT STYLE SOCKET!

only way to get to it.....

this is what my Z6 looks like. should be the same.
just pry it off carefully and put the new seal in.





and if its a manual the clutch bolts are also special! needs to be a socket that fits perfectly at not your standard 6sided socket, i think its a 12side socket. if ya use a standard 6sided socket then it will strip the bolts head right off!
i was able to get the small clutch bolts out with regular 6sided socket but the flywheel is really torqed down good and they started to strip, at least i was able to get 1 bolt out and get the right socket from NAPA AUTOPARTS. autozone didnt carry 12sided sockets.

im really confused, i went to autozone and got a new seal but its way too big. the book says its a crankseal. so i guess what a i looking at. ur pics shows wqhat im looking for but i guess autozone is wrong?
