89 civic hatch d15b6 8 valve. car smokes. did compression check it was 165-180 should be 185 book says above 135 is ok. i was going to put new valve springs and valve seal

in it the valves float out at 4500 rpm should turn 6500rpm. if i have to re-ring i want to use d16z6 pistons so it will be 16 valve and have more then the 62hp it has now but i do

not know if the pistons will work and which crank an rods to use if so? i have a complete z6. only gave 180$ for car not wanting to spend a lot of money this is a junker to drive.

ummm..im not really understanding the question, but if you only have the z6 pistons, how is that going to suddenly turn your head into a 16v? If you have a complete z6 swap, what are you asking? Who cares if you change out the crank and pistons to z6, your head will not just magically have valves appear.

 

if u read what it says i said i have a complete z6 meaning entire motor head,block, crank,pistons,exaust manifold,intake manifold,fuel rail. so wow 16VALVE HEAD V-TEC

 

if u think valve seals and valve springs will help the smoke?

what color is the smoke?

have you checked your pistons for oil? dipstick for a gas-like smell? if you're burning oil its more likely to be there. that kind of compression tells me theres nothign wrong with the head. first thing id do is check for a gas smell in the oil...that will help you determine if its burning oil due to the rings not sitting right or if the problem is elsewhere.

 

sorry did not so what kind of smoke its oil and no the oil does not smell like gas and does not smoke bad a low rpm does bad at 3000rpm the valves float out 4500rpm like i sad thats why i was thinking springs and seals . say if the valves where not closing all way at around 3000 and the valve seals were gone and sucking oil in around the valve due to not closing completely. i dont spell or type good so if somthing is wrong sorry

 

What do you mean by this and how do you tell this?

 

valve springs are weak so at higher rpm the spring cant close the valve quick enough so basically the motor will not turn over 4500rpm due to the valves are not closing and it is not making any power thats about as good as i can explain it to u

 

How did you determine it is due to the valves?

 

when it hits around 4500 the engine loses power and then it will really show u so smoke cant hardly so the car behind u

i have a 77 ford truck built motor 351M. and about 6300rpm or so the valves will float out if u have ever been driving any thing and done u know what it is, it wll run good pull hard up until they float if u want more rpm u buy stronger valve springs that will close the valve quicker , but that 351 will fly apart at much more
